"Black Woman" is widely acknowledged to be the greatest reggae LP ever recorded by a female artist. Most of the material was written, arranged and produced by Judy as an inspirational evocation of the special trials and triumphs of women -especially black women. No artist has been more consistently inspirational than Judy Mowatt, key member of Bob Marley's I-Threes, and tireless messenger on behalf of the oppressed. Her instrument is her gorgeous voice - warm, soulful, effortlessly soaring, a singer for all times. She transends the category of reggae, recording since the earliest stages of her career soul ballads, gospel, rocking message songs and uptempo pop. Judy Mowatt makes music to be played and savoured over and over again.
